This episode is the first appearance of the Daleks in the 21st-century revival of Doctor Who; it also marks the first appearance of Bruno Langley as companion Adam Mitchell. 1975's 'Genesis of the Daleks', when you really think about it, used the wrong make of Dalek in the story. The production team at the time used the usual 1970's Dalek props avaliable to them, and I imagine no one who worked on the production side the story realized at the time that they was using the wrong type. or maybe they did notice, and just didn't care !. Back in those day's thou, I imagine the makers of classic Doctor Who really didn't give much of a monkey's when it came to continuity.

The Doctor and his companions are sent to the planet Skaro by the Time Lords to prevent the creation of the Daleks. For the Who fan "Genesis" represents a stylish, relatively well thought-out revisionist take on the Dalek's history. The lack of consistency in the 'canon' of Who is understandable given how it was made (and the fact that before the late seventies/early eighties and even then and after they were making it for one-time viewing, basically, other than reruns home video was not really a part of the equation), but given that Terry Nation wrote most of.

Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks (Episode 78) (Dbl DVD). One of the most popular story arcs from Doctor Who's "Fourth Doctor" period (starring Tom Baker as the Doctor), writer Terry Nation's Genesis of the Daleks not only fleshes out the back story of the Doctor's most fearsome nemeses-the megalomaniacal, robotic Daleks-but also serves up athoughtful storyline that doesn't skimp on the action. It’s 1975, and Doctor Who stories have taken a more ‘grown-up’ turn. Fast cars and frilly shirts have gone, replaced with physical horror and moral questions. And nowhere is this more apparent than in Dalek-creator Terry Nation’s war parable – and regular fan favourite - Genesis of the Daleks. Doctor: Fourth, early on in his time in the TARDIS. Companions: Feisty journalist Sarah Jane Smith and UNIT doctor, Harry Sullivan.
