Blue Prints" is the unaired pilot episode of Blue's Clues. Although the pilot was never aired, its plot was adapted into the series' first official episode, "Snack Time. Four characters-Blue, Steve, Sidetable, and Mr. Salt-are confirmed to have appeared in the pilot.

It comprises four tracks taken from previously released compilations that Frith had contributed to between 1987 and 1997, seven tracks that were "created spontaneously" in the studio in 1997 and 2001, and one live guitar improvisation in 2001

Our lonely heroine sits at a table in a cafe, the background a dirty-red wall which reinforces the sense of discomfort. Emphasizing the flatness of the canvas, the colour of the walls and the bluish tone of the marble table seem to press the space inwards, around the woman, enclosing her in her hopeless loneliness. In the pose of the absinthe brinker, in her face, we can identify the outcast: the totally enclosed space of her body, the expressive distortion of the right hand, seem to indicate the tension of a coiled spring. On the back of the painting, concealed beneath heavy overpainting in blue and yellow, is a woman's head, probably a fragment of a work which did not satisfy the artist. Source of entry: 1948.

The blueprint process was characterised by white lines on a blue background, a negative of the original. The process was not able to reproduce color or shades of grey  . the dark blue background makes it difficult to alter, thus preserving. the approved drawing during use. a record of the approved specifications. In the early 1940s, cyanotype blueprint began to be supplanted by diazo prints, also known as whiteprints, which have blue lines on a white background; thus these drawings are also called blue-lines or bluelines. Other comparable dye-based prints were known as blacklines. Diazo prints remained in use until they were replaced by xerographic print processes. Xerography is standard copy machine technology using toner on bond paper.
