thewiremagazine Puce Mary The Drought. The Drought is Danish noise musician Frederikke Hoffmeier aka Puce Mary 's sixth studio album. It follows five previous full length albums issued by Copenhagen's Posh Isolation imprint, and is released by Pan. The record is about the struggle with the self towards preservation.

Puce Mary (aka Frederikke Hoffmeier) soundtracks a life spent vacantly shuttling between insidious digital isolation and alienated bodily contact, set against the background of a looming apocalypse. The Drought is extremely cinematic. Many of the timbres will be familiar to fans of recent highbrow horror excursions like The Witch and Under the Skin. Opening with a pair of desolate instrumentals, the album really comes alive on the third track. To Possess Is to Be in Control pivots on Hoffmeier’s laconic voice intoning a droning micro treatise on desire. It winds up with a vaporous cloud of haunting half melodies and floating whistles (catcalls?), and then she dives right in: It makes me sick to open my body to you, to give you all I have.

Puce Mary's 2018 album, The Drought, appeared on Berlin-based experimental label Pan. Puce Mary first appeared in 2010 with the Piss Flowers cassette and Lucia, a collaboration with Lust for Youth's Loke Rahbek, both on Copenhagen's Posh Isolation. Both releases showcased her unremitting use of feedback, noise, and guttural screams to climactic effect. Becoming a staple of the touring circuit within the noise scene, Hoffmeier's brutal use of electronics transferred just as well into a live space

Puce Mary is the solo moniker of Frederikke Hoffmeier who, though based in Copenhagen, has built a reputation for arresting live performances throughout Europe, Japan, Russia, Canada and America.
