Miami is the second studio album by punk blues group The Gun Club, released in 1982. It was released on Blondie guitarist Chris Stein's label, Animal Records. Stein also produced the album. Debbie Harry appears as a backing singer on various tracks on the album under the pseudonym ". Laurence J. The album front cover photograph doesn't include Rob Ritter who had already left the band. Before leaving the band, Ritter first taught all his bass-lines to his ex-Bags bandmate Patricia Morrison.
Mother Juno was released October 17, 1987 on Red Rhino Records. It was produced by Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins. The Gun Club lineup at the time was Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Kid Congo Powers, Romi Mori, and Nick Sanderson. Mother Juno Q&A. Producers Robin Guthrie. Writers Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Mother Juno, the result, is a polished album that's both sobering and sober. Mother Juno is thought by many to be the last important and extremely essential Gun Club release. Originally released in the US in 1996. Produced in Berlin by Robin Guthrie (from the Cocteau Twins) the fourth Gun Club album shows a much mature Jeffrey Lee Pierce. The violent and raw sides of "Fire Of Love" are over and the readings of american musics history from "Miami" and "Las Vegas Story" are behind him, so now the leader of the Gun Club can be more focus on his own way of thinking the music. Here, the songs are intense, sad and beautiful. It could be the soundtrack of a Cormac McCarthy novel written by Chet Baker (why not?).
CD - Sympathy For The Record Industry 7652). The Gun Club collapsed within a year of the release of 1984's The Las Vegas Story, so more than a few fans were surprised in 1987 when Jeffrey Lee Pierce and Kid Congo Powers returned with a new version of the band, featuring Romi Mori (Pierce's significant other) on bass and Nick Sanderson (ex-Clock DVA) on drums. Even more startling was that the group's comeback album, Mother Juno, was produced by Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins, who would hardly have seemed a likely choice to channel the Gun Club's fiery blues-punk assault onto vinyl.
If the Gun Club were around now, they would be fierce rivals of the White Stripes and Babyshambles. Alas, their intriguing mix of punk, delta blues and a Television-like sound did not endear itself to 1980s charts. Now, though, with spiky sounds on the agenda, their dark rock sounds fresh, aided by the timeless, troubled holler of Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins is an unlikely but inspired producer.
The Gun Club was a Californian punk blues band from Los Angeles, California that existed from 1979 to 1996. Led by flamboyant singer and guitarist Jeffrey Lee Pierce, The Gun Club merged the contemporary genre of punk rock with the more traditional genres of blues, rockabilly and country music.
