Lyrics for I Want to Go Home by Derrick Morgan .
Released: 1967 Style: early reggae, rock steady Country: Jamaica. Let The Little Girl Dance, I Want To Go Home (7").
I wish I could see Bakersfield Where the oil wells are pumpin' The oranges are bloomin' And the grapevine winds down from the hill When I close my eyes I can touch the clear skies At the corner where I used to live Oh I wish I could see Bakersfield. He said you don't ever know where life's gonna lead you When you go ramblin' off down the track Sometimes I wish I'd never left California Then I couldn't want to go back
On paper we go together I know that we look the part But almost never hangs on forever I know I'm breaking your heart. So go on, say what you want to I'm not gonna stop you You can blame it all on me. I'm not the hero in the story I'm not the girl that gets the glory 'Cause you're looking for true love And I'm not the one But I wish, but I wish I was. Wish I could feel about you The way you feel about me But you can't make a heart say something That it don't believe
Courtesy of the artist. Courtesy of the artist. It seems the unlikeliest of collaborations: Cat Power, a American songwriter and singer who can be quiet and somewhat insular, and Coldplay, now a veteran band from London that is immensely popular, confident and bold. And still, what happens in this recording, the title track for the film Wish I Was Here, feels so right. Cat Power's voice fits nicely in the piano melody of the song; maybe it's a bit shinier than what she'd do on her own or a bit.
