The Enola Gay (/ɪˈnoʊlə/) is a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, named after Enola Gay Tibbets, the mother of the pilot, Colonel Paul Tibbets. On 6 August 1945, during the final stages of World War II, it became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb. The bomb, code-named "Little Boy", was targeted at the city of Hiroshima, Japan, and caused the near-complete destruction of the city

Enola Gay is the name of Brigadier General Paul Tibbets’s mother. She is the namesake of the Silverplate B-29 Superfortress bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb of World War II on Hiroshima, Japan. The single reached international success, managing to sell over 5 million copies and becoming one of the band’s signature songs.
