Arsenio Rodriguez y Su Conjunto unwrap and reveal their beauty slowly, with graceful patience. The true father of the conjunto style, Rodriguez's arrangements are elegant and unassuming, gently supporting every well-crafted song. The lush beauty of the vocals throughout this record make it a pleasurable and easy listen. While this remains a bit of a mystery, what is clear is how he developed the reputation for being the Cuban songwriter of his generation. Be it for the bittersweet harmony of "Adorenla Como a Marti" or the irresistibly singable "El Homenaje Esta Hablando Bien," his pervasive influence on future generations is undeniable. Arsenio Rodríguez, one of the most important figures in the history of Cuban music, was a prolific composer (he penned close to 200 songs), tresero, percussionist, and bandleader whose innovations changed the face of Latin dance music and paved the way for what would eventually become known as salsa. He is considered the father of the conjunto, an instrumental format that was revolutionary for its time because it introduced the conga drum, which had previously been considered taboo because of its African origin  . Arsenio Rodríguez (born Ignacio Arsenio Travieso Scull ; 31 August 1911 – 30 December 1970) was a Cuban musician, composer and bandleader. He played the tres, as well as the tumbadora, and he specialized in son, rumba and other Afro-Cuban music styles. In the 1940s and 1950s Rodríguez established the conjunto format and contributed to the development the son montuno, the basic template of modern-day salsa . In 1956, Rodríguez released the folkloric rumbas "Con flores del matadero" and "Adiós Roncona" in Havana. The tracks consist of voice and percussion only. One of the last recordings Rodríguez performed on was the rumba album Patato y Totico by the conguero Carlos "Patato" Valdés and vocalist Eugenio "Totico" Arango (1967).
