Silver Apples of the Moon is the debut album by American composer and musician Morton Subotnick, released by Nonesuch Records in July 1967. It contains the titular composition which is split into two different parts.

Due to wide critical acclaim for his groundbreaking Silver Apples of the Moon (1967) and The Wild Bull (1968), Morton Subotnick became the most publicized composer of electronic music in the early '70s.

Instead of dividing the score into the three-part "Butterfly" metaphor that Subotnick liked to use in other such scores, this one purports to concentrate just upon the point of emergence, while using three "gestural" qualities of "thrusting out, becoming, and being" throughout the piece. After a tentative start, listeners begin to encounter some of the trademark Morton Subotnick aggression - sharply defined, pitchless, electronically delayed sounds pingponging across the stereo spectrum

Morton Subotnick (born April 14, 1933, in Los Angeles, California) is an American composer of electronic music, best known for his 1967 composition Silver Apples of the Moon, the first electronic work commissioned by a record company, Nonesuch. He was one of the founding members of California Institute of the Arts, where he taught for many years

But in UNTIL SPRING the process has begun to define itself more characteristically than in any of my previous works. In making UNTIL SPRING, the sculpting process itself was like an emergent moment prolonged and stretched to a period of a few months. The sculptured object, the record, is like time magnified-opened up-to a 30' exploration of a micro-minute.

Born in 1933, Morton Subotnick was one of the pioneers of electronic music in the US in the 1960s. Though he has composed a wide range of instrumental and vocal music as well, he's best known for Silver Apples of the Moon, the tape piece commissioned by Nonesuch Records in 1967. Butterflies is a four-channel tape piece from 1973, while Until Spring: Revisited is a 2009 revision of another 1970s score, which Subotnick has now reworked for live electronics, glass harp and live video
