Miles Davis Quintet (PRLP 185) is a 10 inch LP album by Miles Davis, released in 1954 by Prestige Records. The album title is not to be confused with either of Davis' later Great Quintets. The three tracks on this LP, and one other, were recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey, on April 3, 1954. This was the first session for Prestige Davis recorded at Gelder's home studio, as he would all his remaining sessions for the label.

Trumpeter Enrico Rava is one of the first Italian musicians to have worked and recorded in America in the 1960s. His first instrument, before coming here, was trombone in a Dixieland band - yes, in Italy, not so long after World War II. Then, the story goes, in 1956 in the city of Turin, he saw Miles Davis and Lester Young in concert. To see them together would have been quite an experience! Rava switched to trumpet, developing what writers now call a "burnished" tone

Label Bleu has already issued the group version of Enrico Rava's appearance at the 2001 Montreal jazz festival, dedicated to the music of Miles Davis. This is the other half of the story, in which the Italian trumpeter is paired with Stefano Bollani, the pianist who made such an impression on the same trip. Bollani's contribution to the previous set was remarkable for its bold excursions into thunderous yet startlingly precise free improvisation, which never neglected the interests of the band. Then Bollani delivers streaming variations, flaring free explosions and stamping left-hand playing on the heated, compelling tango for Vasquez y Pepita.
