The first, billed as Tab Smith His Fabulous Alto And Orchestra, was an instrumental cover of the concurrent hit by Tony Bennett, Because Of You (first a hit in 1941 by the Larry Clinton orchestra) which, for Tab, finished at 1 R&B/ 20 Pop in Nov-Dec 1951 b/w Dee Jay Special as United 104. This first of the four Delmark volumes titled Jump Time contains both sides and amply demonstrates Tab's easy transition from soft ballads to jump tunes, although he will never be identified among the sax "honkers" of the era.
