The chorus became well known for its concert series of Handel's Messiah each December, largely due to Mr. Randolph's interpretation of Messiah, which became his trademark. His performances became a seasonal tradition in New York City. Throughout his career, he conducted 173 complete performances of Messiah. Mr. Randolph co-founded The Masterwork Music and Arts Foundation and established The Masterwork School, The Masterwork Chamber Orchestra, The Masterwork Theatre Group and The Masterwork Children's Chorus. He remained Music Director until he stepped down in 1992, at which time he was named Conductor Emeritus. He was a life member of The Masterwork Foundation Board.

Handel: Messiah, Part 2 - "Why Do The Nations. Let Us Break Asunder" by David Thomas & Choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford & Simon Preston & The Academy of Ancient Music & Christopher Hogwood. Having listened to a number of versions of Handel's Messiah through the years, particular during the season of Advent I have to say that this recording is clear, plain, unvarnished, but absolutely stunning and beautifully done. Ideas about Handel's intent have produced bombastic Messiahs with multi-person choirs and huge orchestras, but that is not the case here.

DVID RANDOLPH'S performances of Handel's Messiah are a familiar feature of every Christmas season. Randolph has his lame amateur choruses attempt to combine the tonal richness and weight that lie naturally at their disposal with the agility and intimacy of a chamber group. Sunday night's performance at Avery Fisher Hall, in which Mr. Randolph conducted the Masterwork Chorus, was no exception. As always, many of the tempos and dynamics were unorthodox.
