04 USD. (2015/BGP Ace) 8 tracks, original 1978 Big Town album reissue, 8-page booklet. Houston’s one Big Town release has been largely overlooked by Blues fans. Although he looks super-cool on the cover, who can blame them?
Listen to Jumpin' The Blues from Joe Houston's 100 Rare Blues Masters for free, and see the artwork, lyrics and similar artists. Joseph Abraham "Joe" Houston (July 12, 1926 – December 28, 2015) was an American rhythm & blues tenor saxophonist. He was born in Bastrop, a suburb of Austin, Texas, and studied trumpet in school, changing to saxophone later. One night in 1941 a saxophone player did not show for a gig with the band and Houston took his place. Between 1943 and 1946, Houston toured with King Kolax's band through Kansas City and Chicago and throughout the Mid-West.
Complete your Joe Walsh, Albert Collins, Etta James collection. This recording is perfect. Joe Walsh is in top form with Albert Collins and Etta James stepping in for most of the show. What a combination, Collins bringing his blues and Walsh stepping back admiring and then tearing it up together is great. First time I have given Etta a true listen and man is she powerful. She ties it all together and can she wail.
House of Blues is a chain of live music concert halls and restaurants in major markets throughout the United States. House of Blues' first location, in Cambridge, Massachusetts' Harvard Square, was opened in 1992 by Isaac Tigrett, co-founder of Hard Rock Cafe, and Dan Aykroyd, co-star of the 1980 film The Blues Brothers
Early R&B Jump Blues Soul Soul-Blues. Albert Collins, Etta James, Joe Walsh. Jazzvisions: Jump the Blues Away. The idiom is blues-rock, the headliner is the once and future Eagles star Joe Walsh, and his co-partners are electric bluesman Albert Collins and the indestructible singer Etta James. Within that idiom, though, this is a strong program captained by experts in the arts of blues licks and working the crowd.
Label: BGP. The R&B sax work of Houston was heard in many places and on many labels. He began his work during the jump blues period but he quickly found his way in rock & roll. Houston was nothing if not versatile. When Houston emerged upon the Mercury label, he even found time to create a hit all of his own, a R&B flavoured piece called Worry, Worry, Worry, in 1952.
