The Smiths is the eponymous debut studio album by English rock band the Smiths, released on 20 February 1984 by Rough Trade Records. After the original production by Troy Tate was felt to be inadequate, John Porter re-recorded the album in London, Manchester and Stockport during breaks in the band's UK tour during September 1983. The album was well received by critics and listeners, and reached number two on the UK Albums Chart, staying on the chart for 33 weeks

Slim Smith (born Keith Smith; 1948 in Kingston, Jamaica – 1973) was a ska, rocksteady and reggae singer. In their book Reggae: The Rough Guide (1997), Steve Barrow and Peter Dalton described Smith as "the greatest vocalist to emerge in the rocksteady era". Smith first came to prominence as a member of the Victors Youth Band, who were highly praised at the 1964 Jamaican Festival

Album · 2012 · 31 Songs. With his relaxed demeanor, piercing tenor, and near-encyclopedic knowledge of the repertoires of the great American soul singers, Slim Smith was, for a very brief period, one of Jamaica’s most popular and successful vocalists. As the leader of vocal groups The Techniques and The Uniques, Smith recorded songs for producers like Coxsone Dodd, Duke Reid, and Willie Lowe, helping define the sound of rocksteady. He then joined up with Bunny Striker Lee in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s to record under his own name for the Jackpot label

Slim Smith (born Keith Smith, 1948, Kingston, Jamaica, died October 9, 1972) was a ska, rocksteady and reggae singer that begun with The Techniques and then formed The Uniques.

A naturally gifted singer, Slim Smith is fondly remembered as one of Jamaica's greatest singers. He first came to prominence as a teenager when he scored several hits with the vocal Rock Steady group the Techniques. Obviously influenced by American Soul music and Curtis Mayfield in particular, Smith became known as a solo artist in the late '60s, singing inspired love songs with a gospel-like fervor. A naturally gifted singer, Slim Smith is fondly remembered as one of Jamaica's greatest singers.
