So it shouldn't surprise anyone that Raul Malo's first solo album doesn't have a single country bone in its body, but not everyone might have expected Malo to walk so boldly in a single direction. Malo began exploring his Cuban musical heritage with a few Latin-flavored numbers on the Mavericks' Music for All Occasions and Trampoline, and on Today he steeps himself in Latin rhythms, from the fiery dance groove of the title track and the sensuous tension of "Every Little Thing" to the jazzy sway of "Ya Tu Veras" (four of the album's 12 cuts.

Today ‎(2xCD, Album). Raul Malo is the always smiling lead singer of The Mavericks, the countrygroep that in 1998 an international hit Dance The Night Away. He was born in 1965 in Miami to Cuban immigrants. After several albums with traditional country music sounded on the Mavericksalbums Music For All Occasions (1995) and Trampoline (1998) ever more strongly the Cuban roots of Malo. On his solo debut Today he continues this trend. We hear so again a special mix of styles such as country, sixties pop, calypso, rock and salsa. For the production he got help from the experienced Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.

Raúl Francisco Martínez-Malo Jr. (born August 7, 1965 in Miami, Florida), known professionally as Raúl Malo, is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. He is the lead singer of country music band The Mavericks and the co-writer of many of their singles, as well as Rick Trevino's 2003 single "In My Dreams". After the disbanding of The Mavericks in the early 2000s, Malo pursued a solo career. He has also participated from 2001 in the Los Super Seven supergroup
