I don't mean to dwell But I can't help myself When I feel the vibe And taste a memory Of a time in life When years seemed to stand still. I close my eyes And sink within myself Relive the gift of precious memories In need of a fix called innocence. When did it begin? The change to come was undetectable The open wounds expose the importance of Our innocence A high that can never be bought or sold. Symbolic acts, so vivid Yet at the same time Were invisible

There’s really no way to put it into words, you just have to listen to it. But it sounds more human, more real. The copious hype surrounding Death's album "Symbolic" is well earned, and this piece of music is worth every word of praise heaped upon it. It is perfect, and that isn't a stretch at all. Chuck Schuldiner, the creative genius behind death metals best (absolute best, most consistent and innovative) group is a bit of a perfectionist, and its clear on this album.
Since their first full length album Scream Bloody Gore they had made a big impression on the metal world and helped pioneer the now famous Florida death metal scene. Their earlier material was all about brutality (as you can probably tell from the song titles), speed, and sheer aggression. While the songs are still heavy, the band has lightened up on the song subjects and slightly on the guitar riffing. Musically, the band has reached a higher level of technicality and musical proficiency. I will discuss all of this later on.
