Tie Your Soul To Mine LP/digital out now through Lost Boy Records. If you’ve been following us this long, you’d know that rarely anything in the world of Safe Hands runs smoothly or according to plan and it seems fitting that things are still a bit of a shitfight up until the end. After making the difficult decision to lay the band to rest we tried to call in some favours and organise a last show in a very small time frame. we rushed into it knowing that we only had a small window to work with.
Safe in the Hands of Love is the third studio album by American experimental electronic music artist Yves Tumor. It was released on September 5, 2018 by Warp Records.
Everywhere on Safe, violence mingles uneasily with delicacy-Tumor’s own voice switches from a wraithlike falsetto to a yell to a menacing chant. All of it feels too close -mixed too close in our headphones, clipping into distortion, but also too close for comfort, the massive sounds looming over the delicate ones. Tumor’s music sounds freer to move than most, and it prowls fearlessly around every corner of the record store. There are moments here with the brooding tang of ’90s alt-rock. Hope in Suffering feels like the first half of a Prurient album submerged in the first half of Loveless.
What pushes Safe in the Hands of Love beyond the producer's previous works is the emotion that the record transmits. No matter if the synths are harsh, or the rhythm section arrives with the perfect groove, this is a work filled with an emotive purpose, and it is that core that makes it such a wonderful listen. If Yves Tumor was truly an experimental artist before Safe In the Hands of Love, the only reason this album is experimental is because there’s simply no other genre it could be put into. Part noise, part alt-rock, part dream pop, Safe In the Hands of Love is a daring, genre-neutral catharsis of the emotions that come from lack of recognition and oppression.
Yves Tumor has released his new album Safe In The Hands Of Love, his first since signing to Warp. The surprise drop follows the previously released singles ‘Noid’ and ‘Licking An Orchid’, both of which showcased a surprising indie pop direction from the artist, whose 2016 album Serpent Music arrived on PAN. As well as a collaboration with James K on ‘Licking An Orchid’, the album features guest spots from Puce Mary, Croation Amor and Oxhy
