Thomas Francis Dorsey Jr. (November 19, 1905 – November 26, 1956) was an American jazz trombonist, composer, conductor and bandleader of the big band era. He was known as the "Sentimental Gentleman of Swing" because of his smooth-toned trombone playing. His technical skill on the trombone gave him renown among other musicians. He was the younger brother of bandleader Jimmy Dorsey.
Tommy Dorsey (born November 19, 1905, Mahanoy Plane, Pennsylvania, USA - died November 26, 1956, Greenwich, Connecticut, USA) was an American trombonist, trumpeter, composer, conductor and bandleader of the Big Band era. He often worked with his brother Jimmy Dorsey in New York and helped the Swing Era grow in the US, he was an important bandleader during that time.

Emphasizing the jazz side of TD, one not only hears his trombone but Charlie Shavers's trumpet and Sam Donahue's tenor well-featured throughout this album. Bill Finegan contributed some of the arrangements to what would be Tommy Dorsey's last big band before rejoining forces with his brother Jimmy for a final nostalgia-based orchestra.
TOMMY DORSEY & HIS ORCHESTRA is a exotica big band music artist. Tommy and his brother Jimmy worked in several bands, including those of Rudy Vallee, Vincent Lopez, and especially Paul Whiteman, before forming the original Dorsey Brothers Orchestra in 1934. Ongoing acrimony between the brothers, however, led to Tommy Dorsey's walking out to form his own band in 1935, just as the Orchestra was having a hit with "Every Little Moment.

Philharmonic Symphony orch tonight (Wednesday at 6:40 o'clock under Artur Rodzinskl's baton; the City Symphony Thursday afternoon with Tommy Dorsey, soloist and Leopold Stokowski conducting; a swing session Saturday (17) with Louis Armstrong; Music of the Armed Forces that night and a "pop" concert at Times Hall, N.
