Symphonie No. 5. ~ Release group by Gustav Mahler; Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Václav Neumann.

Conductor – Václav Neumann. Orchestra – Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Photography – Fridmar Damm. Photography By – Corbis. Printed and manufactured in Germany.

To be clear, this reissue of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5 in C sharp minor is the first of two recordings Václav Neumann made of the work and must be distinguished from the 1977 recording he made with the Czech Philharmonic for Supraphon, which was issued in a set of the complete symphonies

MAHLER Symphony No. 5, Václav Neumann, cond; Leipzig Gewandhaus O, BRILLIANT 93278 (65: 41). Václav Neumann conducted a complete set of the Mahler symphonies with the Czech Philharmonic from 1976 to 1982 (a set that eluded me). This earlier performance with the Leipzig orchestra, which Neumann conducted from 1964 to 1968, was presumably recorded during that time-there is a Mahler Ninth on Berlin Classics that dates from 1967 (Brilliant supplies no production data)

By Gustav Mahler, Václav Neumann, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Symphony No. 5 in C-Sharp Minor: I. Trauermarsch. 2. 5 in C-Sharp Minor: II. Stürmisch bewegt, mit größster Vehemenz. 10 (Arr. M. Castelletti for Chamber Orchestra).
