Superficially, SaturnzReturn at least delivers in terms of scale and ambition. Running a little over two-and-a-half hours and including a mini-symphony as its first track, the double-disc set is bursting with promise.

The first disc of this double album "Mother", can be regarded as a separate album all by itself, in that it is 60 minutes long. Those with a short attention span shiver, while those of us who have gotten used to the hallucinary landscapes of ambient techno wizkids like Moby, Aphex twin & Orbital, are willing to sit through the piece. Saturnz" is an album that requires your undivided attention to achieve it's true depth, and, in my ever so humble opinion, it delivers on the promise of "Timeless".

The album is certainly a nostalgia trip in many ways, with Goldie paying tribute to his myriad influences as well as his own past, but even as he samples elements from some of his earlier recordings, he isn't directly going down the same roads. In terms of production, Goldie wisely keeps the album from sounding overstuffed. The album has no speaker-punishing sub-bass or harsh, frantic breaks, and doesn't delve into Goldie's dark side the way Saturnz Return did; there's nothing as angry as "Temper Temper" or suicidally depressed as "Letter of Fate. Running a little over two and a half hours and including a mini-symphony as its first track, the double-disc set is bursting with promise. Unfortunately, it fails to reach the dizzying heights of its predecessor, and its very ambitions feel like burdens.
