John Larsson is a well-respected figure in the Salvation Army; in fact he was world leader of the denomination for a while. Amazingly, John found time between 1967 and 1990 to co-write 10 full-length stage musicals with lyricist John Gowans. These musicals have passed into Salvation Army folk-lore, partly because of their wide appeal and partly because both authors saw their Army careers go from captain to general. These new recordings of two of the Larsson/Gowans musicals, Take-Over Bid and Hosea are piano-only renditions. The songs come across as happy, bouncy, catchy, inspired and, inevitably, though in truth rather dated. Many of the songs have been taken up and used in other contexts. I recognized their song "Hundreds And Thousands" from Take-Over Bid because it was included in a BBC schools hymnbook and has been sung by thousands of children up and down the country.

Johan Larsson is a European, former musician and specifically ex-bassist of the Swedish bands In Flames, which he did occasional backing vocals as well, being a member from 1993 until 1997; he was also the original member of HammerFall from 1993-1994, quitting before the band released any material and member of Purgamentum, also providing vocals. He was also the guitarists of the bands Powerpig.

John Alfred Larsson (born 2 April 1938), is a Swedish Salvationist, writer and composer of Christian music and hymns, who was the 17th General of The Salvation Army. The son of officer parents, he spent his early years in his native Sweden, in Denmark, Chile and Argentina. He is also a composer and, together with John Gowans, co-authored ten full-length stage musicals, Take-Over Bid (1967), Hosea (1969), Jesus Folk (1972), Spirit (1973), Glory (1975), White Rose (1977), The Blood Of The Lamb (1978), Son Of Man (1983), Man Mark II (1985), and The Meeting (1990). In 1999, Larsson became chief of the staff, second in command of The Salvation Army worldwide. His wife became World Secretary for Women's Organisations (later Women's Ministries).
