Hartmut Geerken (born 15 January 1939 in Stuttgart, Germany) is a German musician, composer, writer, journalist, playwright, and filmmaker. Geerken studied orientalism, philosophy, German studies and comparative religion in Tübingen and Istanbul, and produced a dissertation on Hellmut Ritter.

Hartmut Gerken grew up in Wellburg an der Lahn and Wilhelmshaven. He studied medicine from 1854 to 1860 in Göttingen, Innsbruck and Freiburg. He passed the medical state examination in Freiburg in 1860 and obtained his doctorate in 1861. After working in the deacon hospital Torenburg/Wümme and the anatomical institute in Freiburg, he came to Kiel as a scientific assistant. He became clinical head physician in 1969. A major part of his scientific work concerned genetics and epilepsy. Epilepsy was the topic of his habilitation thesis

Hartmut Geerken: At the face LP. Hartmut Geerken is a writer, a composer, a musician, a film-maker, an actor and also a lumberjack. He travelled the world and lived in Egypt where he founded - together with Salah Ragab and Edu Vizvari - the Cairo Jazz Band and the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble. He also played with Embryo, in a trio with John Tchicai and Don Moye (with whom he made an extensive tour in Africa) and also with the Art Ensemble of Chicago. He worked with Sunny Murray, Don Cherry, Okay Termiz, Peter Kowald, Takehisa Kosugi, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Michael Ranta, and so many more.
