The Ordinary Boys are an English indie rock band from Worthing, West Sussex. Originally a hardcore outfit named Next in Line, they are influenced by punk rock and Britpop music, as well as the bands The Clash, The Specials, The Jam, The Kinks and The Smiths. Their name derives from a Morrissey song, "The Ordinary Boys".

Album · 2005 · 11 Songs. 2. Boys Will Be Boys. 3. Life Will Be the Death of Me. 2:21.

Waiting for the right words to say But I won't find them anyway To let you know my true intentions Wo wo woah You must know what you state is wrong You let it carry on and on It's too late to talk about prevention. Too brassbound to talk about it ‘Cos you don't care But I'm all ears And you're not going anywhere. Moderate to satisfy your mood You're wrapped up on being rude You're only coming for reaction Wo wo woah This held high above the crowd Hold it firm hold it proud You found your human interaction

Eschewing the Paul Weller influences of its predecessor, Brassbound is instead more occupied with the Two-Tone ska and lover's rock reggae sound that producer Stephen Street previously embraced in his early '80s outfit BIM. It's a subtle reinvention which they pull off superbly on lead single "Boys Will Be Boys," a toweringly energetic, chest-beating anthem featuring a chilled-out breakdown from the English Beat's Ranking Roger, which deservedly occupied the upper reaches of the charts following their newfound reality show-inspired fame.

The Ordinary Boys mix a fusion of indie rock and ska to create a very enjoyable sound. Their second album Brassbound was released in 2005 and has enjoyed some commercial success. The sound is slightly different then their first but this album is probably the better of the two. The new album also incorporates a horn section, piano and organ playing and even the odd bit of strings. It is a pretty consistent album throughout and shows how the band have evolved musically. The album opens with Brassbound, which starts up with a short bit of piano playing and then kicks off into the main body of the song. The song it self features great guitar playing and Preston’s vocals sound at their best. It also features backing from a couple of horns. Good choice for an opening track. Boys Will Be Boys is up next. This song was the first track selected from the album to be a single, it is understandable why.
