Unfortunately, Anthology has since gone out of print, to be replaced by the two-disc Very Best of Marvin Gaye. While the newer compilation has the advantage of licensing Gaye's post-Motown smash "Sexual Healing" (which is missing from Anthology), it unfortunately contains 13 fewer tracks, making Anthology the preferred alternative if you can track it down. American music artist Marvin Gaye released 25 studio albums, 4 live albums, 1 soundtrack album, 24 compilation albums and 83 singles. In 1961 Gaye signed a recording contract with Tamla Records, owned by Motown. The first release under the label was The Soulful Moods of Marvin Gaye. Gaye's first album to chart was a duet album with Mary Wells titled Together, peaking at number forty-two on the Billboard pop album chart
Anthology: The Best of Marvin Gaye is a double CD chronology of American singer Marvin Gaye's career throughout his twenty-year tenure with Motown Records from his first big hit, 1962's "Stubborn Kind of Fellow", to his final Motown R&B charter, "Heavy Love Affair" in 1981. The anthology also covered a set of duet recordings with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, Tammi Terrell, and Diana Ross, as well as unreleased recordings from the 1960s and 1970s. Gaye's Anthology set was actually released a total of three times in different track listings
