Call To Mind is my pick for best Drum & Bass artist album of 2007. Commix deliver their trademark big bassline dancefloor killers-Be True, Satellite Type 2 (the anthems from the sampler 12") and Strictly-and cover a lot of other bases without overextending themselves. Steve Spacek's vocals shine on How You Gonna Feel, a bittersweet yet upbeat breakup song.
Commix - Call To Mind The press notes for the very first artist album in Metalheadz history compare it to landmark drum n bass full lengths such as Timeless or New Forms. Unfortunately, the reality is a little less glowing.
Call To Mind was the second release of an artist album on Metalheadz, after Goldie's Rufige Kru alter-ego's Malice in Wonderland. The duo has also notably remixed tracks by artists including Bebel Gilberto, Adam. Brewer left the group in March 2012, leaving Levings the only member. In 2016, new material appeared on Commix' Soundcloud page which pays more tribute to sound design rather than on samples. Feel Something, Soul Rebels" (2003). Give You Everything, I'll Take You There" (2003). Something Better, All You Need" (2003). I Want To Know, Hold On Be Strong" (with Logistics) (2004). You'll See, Trojan" (2004). Herbie, Variations" (2004).
Re:Call To Mind" is based on Commix's original work Call to Mind. A record I've never heard but, I note, is held in very high regard. The reason I came by this CD is that it contains remixes by two of my very favourite artists - Burial and Underground Resistance. I don't think so - it still sounds fantastic. In fact it's probably the best thing I've heard on Metalheadz since Goldie's Timeless (though bearing in mind I'm only an occasional follower of the label). It's so much more than just the Burial and UR mixes - all the selections are equally strong
