Everyone performs certain routine tasks automatically. Driving a car would be awkward indeed if one had to think newly of every tiny procedure. The answers are here and they open a completely new perspective on the mind. To the degree an individual has withdrawn from participation in an area of life, he substitutes an automatic mental mechanism for himself. Here, then, are these mental mechanisms and exactly how they undermine an individual’s power of decision. Toward returning him that power, L. Ron Hubbard details how they can be recognized in a person’s thoughts, acts and conversation, and thus detected in both oneself and others. And that is a crucial ability

In celebration of his fiftieth anniversary as an author, he again returned to the forefront of popular literature with his monumental epics "Battlefield Earth" and the ten‑volume Mission Earth series. Together, these titles dominated international bestseller lists for more than 200 weeks, and still remain among the all‑time classic works of modern speculative fiction.

In 1950, Hubbard authored Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health and established a series of organizations to promote Dianetics. In 1952, Hubbard lost the rights to Dianetics in bankruptcy proceedings, and he subsequently founded Scientology.

The story is immense, wondrous and effectively encompasses the whole of his existence. Yet the broad strokes are these: By way of a first entrance into a spiritual dimension, he tells of a boyhood friendship with indigenous Blackfeet Indians in Helena, Montana. He became one of the few Americans of the age to gain entrance into fabled Tibetan lamaseries scattered through the Western Hills of China and actually studied with the last in a line of royal magicians descended from the court of Kublai Khan.
