Elton John has released so many albums that picking a top 10 is simply an exercise in fun and tribute. No other individual artist in popular music history with the exception of Paul McCartney has been as prolific as Elton John. Elton John’s album Blue Moves was a brilliant artistic leap in the craft of popular music songwriting, arranging and production. The album’s opening side which featured the songs One Horse Town, and Tonight, stands as one of Elton’s finest LP sides. The production on the song One Horse Town, presented Elton fans with one of the best sounding recordings Elton has ever produced. The orchestrated opening of the song Tonight, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra was simply mesmerizing and is one of the most beautiful pieces of music Elton has ever written.
Elton John - "Skyline Pigeon". John may have sung about "waiting for the day he can spread his wings," but the guy who sang this earnest ballad from his 1969 debut album Empty Sky was already well-formed and ready to take flight - although nobody then could have known the heights he'd reach. 19. Elton John - "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That". The lead single from 1988's Reg Strikes Back is taut, spare and propulsive, with some of the most inspired piano playing we'd heard from John in quite some time.
Picking Elton John's single greatest album is no easy task. The man worked like a maniac in the early 1970s, releasing 10 albums between 1970 and 1976. Those were his golden years, but he kept going and managed more than a few true creative comebacks in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Elton John was dangerously close to being an oldies act by 1983. His five albums since 1976's Blue Moves didn't live up to critical or commercial expectations, and his decision to dissolve his original band and work with songwriters other than Bernie Taupin didn't sit well with fans. He corrected all these errors on Too Low For Zero.
Elton John’s collection of hits is second to none, but across half a century’s worth of albums, a number of the best Elton John songs were never released as singles. Featuring a namecheck for ‘Spanish Harlem’ – as recorded by two of Elton and Bernie’s soul heroes, Ben E King and Aretha Franklin – this delicate piece about Taupin’s first impressions of New York City adorns the Honky Château album and remains one of Elton’s own great favourites. 2: ‘Candle In The Wind’ (1974). Elton and Bernie’s salute to Marilyn Monroe became a hit again in 1987, on John’s Live In Australia album, and then in the most heartbreaking circumstances imaginable in 1997, when the lyrics were rewritten in tribute to the late Diana, Princess Of Wales. That recording, produced by George Martin, became the bestselling single in recording history.
Following his forlorn 1978 album, A Single Man, Elton John recorded a slapdash disco mess, Victim of Love, that will perpetually occupy the lowest space on any rational ranking of his discography. After this, John began to find his way again with the uneven 21 at 33 in 1980. 21 at 33 featured a big hit, Little Jeannie, but The Fox is a much better album.
Elton John best tracks. Include tracks from compilation albums Exclude tracks from compilation albums The same track can appear on multiple albums, so excluding tracks from compilation albums helps to remove duplicates from this list. I don't understand why Elton John is not rated in the top 20 on the BEA list. His volume of excellent and outstanding work should qualify him for something higher. He excels as singer, songwriter and musician.
