Criminal ‘Criminal’, The Soft Moon's fourth studio album, is a confessional work. Through the stark lens of shame and guilt that has followed Luis Vasquez since a violent childhood growing up within the humming ambient sprawl of 80s Mojave Desert, here he documents the gut-wrenching sound of going to war with himself. Battling with his own sanity, self-hatred, insecurity, self-entitlement and grappling with the risk of these things transforming him into a person he despises, Vasquez has laid his feelings bare with this: his confession and most self-reflective work to date

The paper, titled Automated Inference on Criminality using Face Images, finds that you can accurately predict whether someone is a criminal or not based on a few key facial characteristics. It harkens back to a dangerous time when people actually believed this was the case. Mix particular versions of these features up in a pot and you have a criminal, apparently.

I've done a basic search around the internet for anything more about this release or the label that made it, and I've found nothing. Unsurprisingly the website on the back cover is no longer active, as is with most small websites listed on physical releases. I got the CD for free with my purchase at Gramophone Records in Chicago, I just picked it out of a pile of other random shit they were trying to get rid of.The mix is a really good hour long sampler of East Coast Hip-Hop, and it contains a lot of great remixes. There isn't a bad song on the album, but the standout for me has to be Kool G Rap & D.J. Polo - On the Run (Diesel Capone Dub), which takes on a completely different style production-wise than the album version. I'll probably upload the full mix on YouTube or somewhere like that, or at least the few tracks that you can't find anywhere else.
