Melana Chasmata is the second full-length album by Swiss extreme metal band Triptykon, released through Prowling Death Records/Century Media Records on 14 April 2014 in Europe and on 15 April 2014 in North America. The album was officially announced on 22 October 2013 by the band's frontman, Thomas Gabriel Fischer (. Tom Warrior"), on his official blog.

The box set is limited to 2000 copies worldwide. Recorded at Woodshed Studio (Landshut, Germany), Triptykon Bunker (Zürich, Switzerland) and Corinne's Place (Zürich, Switzerand), November 2013 to January 2014

The band’s latest album ‘Melana Chasmata’ is much more somber and introspective, the result of some trying times for Warrior and the band. The album title loosely translated means 'black, deep depressions/valleys. However, there's no lack of intensity. That’s reflected in the opening track ‘Tree of Suffocating Souls,’ which has the suffocating moments you’d expect from its title along with anguished vocals from Warrior, but also mellower, doomy parts with more subdued singing. Triptykon’s lineup on this album is the same as their debut. It includes guitarist V. Santura, who Warrior worked with in Celtic Frost. Those two produced ‘Melana Chasmata. They turned up bassist Vanja Slajh nice and loud, giving the doomy songs a rumbling anchor. One thing that adds to the more overall melancholy vibe of the album is the increased use of female vocals.

Melana Chasmata is a fine exemplar of Triptykon’s capability to perform several separate styles of music. Breathing, the album’s lead-off single, perfectly encapsulated the band’s dynamic that emerged from the seasoned Tom Warrior’s experience in Celtic Frost (a premier name in the small circle of European Thrash-minded Black Metal bands in the ‘80s) and fellow guitarist V. Santura’s time spent in German Black Metal act Dark Fortress (who largely gained their present. Triptykon’s keen sense of exploration was certainly their primary strength on this album. There are moments that leave the listener yearning for diversity. Black Snow, for example is a twelve and a half minute Gothic Metal track that goes through motions of Doom for Doom’s sake. Regardless, Melana Chasmata proved to be a highly fruitful undertaking assuredly deserving of its critical praise.
