Rosita Fornes y Malena Burke en un concierto de la hija y nieta de Elena Burke, la gran cancionera cubana ya desaparecida. La foto fue tomada en el centro nocturno de Miami "Hoy como Ayer". A bordo, es donde realiza su primera presentación en público, a los 13 años de edad, interpretando el tango Silencio en la noche de Carlos Gardel y Alfredo Le Pera, acompañada al piano por otra pasajera quien era una concertista santiaguera. El 12 de septiembre de 1938 se presentó en los estudios de la estación radial, CMQ-Radio en el programa de aficionados -dirigido por José Antonio Alonso- llamado La Corte Suprema del Arte ,cantando la milonga La hija de Juan Simón, acompañada por el andaluz Manolo Tirado en la guitarra. Alli nacio la cantante primero y mas tarde vedette, Rosita Fornes, la artista mas famosa de Cuba.

Fornes became her artistic name at the age of fifteen at the request of her step-father, who helped raise her from the age of 2.
