New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards. 50. Pretty in Pink (1986) John Hughes’ use of music was so distinct and masterful that to this day, lazy music writers can describe something as sounding like it belongs in a John Hughes movie and you know exactly what they mean. And out of all his soundtracks, Pretty in Pink is perhaps the John Hughes-iest, full of New Wave classics worthy of its record store-clerk heroine.

New Wave is Against Me!'s fourth full-length studio album and their debut album on Sire Records. Produced by Butch Vig of Nevermind fame, it was released on July 10, 2007. The album debuted at on the Billboard 200 on the week of its release. The album's first single, "White People for Peace", was released in May 2007, prior to the album's release. A second single, "Thrash Unreal", followed in July 2007. New Wave is the first Against Me! full length to not feature any acoustic tracks.

If this new wave of traditional metal has a renaissance man, it's Jarvis Leatherby. Not only is he the vocalist-bassist in Southern California power trio Night Demon; he also plays bass in newly reformed trad-metal legends Cirith Ungol and fronts the latest incarnation of NWOBHM vets Jaguar. Slipknot's . : The Gray Chapter': How Death, Trauma Shaped Comeback LP. Corey Taylor: "This album is about making peace with the loss that we've suffered". Drugs, Death, Chaos, Contradiction: Inside Dillinger's 'One of Us Is the Killer'.

Ryan Bell interviews John Gray for his latest book. Seven Types of Atheism with John Gray. On this episode I speak with philosopher and author, John Gray, about humanism, secular utopianism, and his new book, Seven Types of Atheism.

Philosopher John Gray has been predicting a future of global chaos for decades. It's time to listen, says David Runciman. The problem is that it is hard to get anyone to notice the irony as a new wave of hubristic nonsense about peace, globalisation and apple pie carries all before it. But then, post-9/11, things change again. In the capable hands of George W Bush and Tony Blair, a naive liberal faith in the value of freedom, and a happy obliviousness to the difficulties of trying to spread it around the world by force of arms, makes it almost too easy to show how neoliberalism turns into a parody of itself.
