A pianist, organist, and conductor, Buddy Cole worked with many jazz and pop singers during the 1940s and ’50s (Judy Garland and Peggy Lee, to name but two). The few occasions when Cole got to perform under his own banner include two albums, both from 1958: HAVE ORGAN, WILL SWING and COLE PLAYS COLE. The former is a jazz-driven standards set, featuring Cole on organ (naturally); the latter is an all-Cole Porter program, where Buddy plays the keys and directs the studio orchestra. Both are choice examples of '50s-era jazz-inspired easy-listening concept albums.
