The Melissa Manchester album also featured Manchester's own version of the Kenny Loggins hit she'd co-written: "Whenever I Call You Friend", which Manchester recorded as a duet with Arnold McCuller. Both the singles from the Melissa Manchester album were outside material: released three weeks prior to the album, "Pretty Girls" was the first upbeat single to lead a Melissa Manchester album and besides its standard 7" inch 45 issue the track served as Manchester's extended dance single debut (producer Buckingham was best known for the Alicia Bridges disco. Without producing a Top 30 single, the Melissa Manchester album evidenced a drop in the singer's popularity from the precedent Don't Cry Out Loud album, with Melissa Manchester peaking at as opposed to #33.

Melissa Manchester chronology. The album spawned three singles: the uptempo title track "Mathematics" was the first single and peaked at in the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Manchester's last entry to date on that chart. The next two singles, the Hi-NRG track "Energy" (the only one to have a music video) and the ballad "Just One Lifetime", failed to chart. The album itself had limited success and continued Manchester's chart decline, peaking at a low No. 144 in the USA. To date, it is her last album to chart in that country.

Melissa is the third album by Melissa Manchester, released on the Arista Records label in 1975. Top Ten hit "Midnight Blue". Track listing - "We've Got Time" (Manchester. Melissa (Melissa Manchester album).

Melissa Manchester's creative contributions to her own records were on the wane, but here she managed to assert her identity by writing six of the ten tracks - each one a good bit better than the lame ballad and disco fodder that made up the balance. Whenever I Call You Friend," a hit the year before for Stevie Nicks and Kenny Loggins (the song's co-writer), is a far more supple, elegant song in Manchester's capable hands.
