The band's second album is a major advance on its first, featuring superior singing, playing, and songwriting, as well as a more unified sound, without sacrificing the element of surprise in the first record. Many of the melodies and even the riffs here (check out Gary Green's first guitar flourish on "Pantagruel's Nativity") have a pretty high haunt count, and all of the musicianship displays an elegance seldom heard even in progressive circles - but the record also, amazingly enough, rocks really hard as well
Setting out their stall before the record even started, the liner notes brazenly proclaimed a modus operandi of expanding the frontiers of contemporary popular music at the risk of being very unpopular, declaring that each song on the album should be unique, adventurous and fascinating, abandoning all preconceived thoughts of blatant commercialism. The LP’s open gatefold
Acquiring The Taste is a music studio album recording by GENTLE GIANT (Eclectic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1971 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. In this regard, Acquiring the Taste is a perfect "stepping stone" between their first eponymous album and Three Friends, on which they first start to develop a truly cohesive sound, and a "direction.
The House, The Street, The Room.
Gentle Giant is the first album by British progressive rock band Gentle Giant, released in 1970. It first appeared in the United States and Canada with the same cover as the Three Friends album. American hip-hop duo Madvillain sampled "Funny Ways" on "Strange Ways" from their album Madvillainy, which was subsequently featured in an episode of the television show The Boondocks.
