Quiet Is The New Loud. A lot of people are wondering about the new Kings of Convenience album. What has happened is this: the songs were written and even performed live but when we tried to record it during 2016/2017 for a mixture of reasons the results just weren’t good enough. And by that time I (erlend) didn’t have anymore energy to pour into it. I needed distance to be able to be objective about it again.

Kings of Convenience is an indie folk-pop duo from Bergen, Norway. Consisting of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe. Øye and Bøe were both born in 1975 (Øye on November 21 and Bøe on October 25) and have known each other since they met in the same class at school. Their first musical collaboration was a comedic rap about a teacher. At sixteen, they played together in the band Skog ("forest") with two other friends, releasing one EP, Tom Tids Tale, before breaking up and later forming the Kings duo.

These days the release of Quiet Is The New Loud, KINGS OF CONVENIENCE’s acclaimed debut record, celebrates its 15th anniversary. On top of that, the duos most recent one Declaration of Dependence also isn’t the youngest anymore: seven years went by since its release. So, the time has definitely come for the two Norwegian musicians to make the world a gift and produce a new record.

The acoustic album Kings of Convenience’s Live Acoustic Sessions followed in 2010, recorded in Milan, Italy in 2009. Kings of Convenience. Kings of Convenience has impeccable chemistry when performing together. This is no surprise as the band’s two members, Erlend and Erik, have been great friends since teenagers. They know exactly how to read from each other’s playing abilities, being aware of when to play a fill on the guitar to enhance the other performer’s guitar playing. Erik usually performs on a classical guitar playing bossa-nova type rhythms and dream-like jazz chords while Erlend performs over Erik’s rhythm on a nylon stringed, acoustic guitar playing catchy riffs and solos. "Republic Of Two" was the original working title for the duo's follow-up to "Quiet Is The New Loud", and before they changed the title to "Riot On An Empty Street" their label Astralwerks produced a handful of in-house promo copies with the original title that did not going into circulation outside their offices. One copy escaped - this one! Musically the contents of the CD are identical to "Riot..."
