Village People is the self-titled debut album by Village People, released on July 11, 1977. Its hit song "San Francisco (You've Got Me)" reached the top 50 in the UK, peaking at Village People was the creation of Jacques Morali, a French composer. He had written a few dance tunes when he was given a demo tape recorded by singer/actor Victor Willis. Morali approached Willis and told him, "I had a dream that you sang lead on my album and it went very, very big".

With an earlier, very similar Rhino anthology now out of print, Casablanca's 14-track The Best of Village People stands as the clear-cut choice for disco and camp fanatics who want a detailed portrait of the group's career. This collection includes both the 7" and 12" versions of their two Top Five pop hits, ". blue highlight denotes track pick.

The group was originally formed by French producers Jacques Morali, Henri Belolo and lead singer Victor Willis following the release of the debut album Village People, which targeted disco's gay audience. The group's name refers to New York City's Greenwich Village, at the time known for its large gay population.

Now that I have the Best Of The Village People, the whole CD is on my ipod, and have been playing it non stop for the last week.
