In 2015 I started a jazz quintet with drums, bass, piano, guitar and saxophone. Since then I've been writing new modern jazz music that connects jazz harmonies and melodies with a steady 'easy' groove. In August 2016 we performed at Tivoli Vredenburg Cloud Nine in The Netherlands with a larger ensemble. The quintet has been augmented with three singers (who take the role of a sort of string section) and a unique horn section (bass clarinet, french horn, trumpet/flugelhorn and flute)

Through her colourful and fascinating compositions she finds her voice to express herself and tells a powerful story to her listeners. In February 2017 she released her first EP "Leaves of Lily" with her own compositions. This year Kika Sprangers has been elected as Young Vip 2018 (best new jazz artist) by well regarded Dutch jazz bookers and musicians. For a 23-year-old, Kika Sprangers is showing strong growth and maturity as a musician in her native land of Holland, busy all year with gigs with both a small group and a large ensemble. Busy both blowing alto and soprano sax, but also busy writing material inspired by a variety of sources. She's only been playing for 15 years, but this year was selected Young VIP of 2018 by jazz programmers in the Netherlands. There are only two selected each year.
