The Dance of Life is the second 1979 studio disc from R&B ummer/producer Narada Michael Walden. Unlike his last two releases, it featured several songs Walden co-wrote with other people (such as Allee Willis and guitarist Corrado "Pat" Rustici); unlike his discs up to this one, it featured only eight songs, not nine (yet was a half-minute longer than his last disc). Narada Michael Walden had seen the light, and it was a swirling disco ball. The multi-talented Michigan native saw that the way to the top of the charts was by way of the dancefloor. For The Dance of Life, the follow-up LP to his Awakening ("I Don't Want Nobody Else (To Dance With You)"), Walden square took aim at "dancing feet. The result was that the effervescent "I Shoulda Loved Ya" went to number four on the R&B charts and mid-charted pop in late 1979, while the album broke the R&B Top Ten. Its follow-up was the bright, brassy Top 40 R&B hit.

Narada Michael Walden (born Michael Walden on 23 April 1952 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA) is an American producer, drummer, singer, and songwriter. He was given the name Narada by guru Sri Chinmoy in the early 1970s and his musical career spans three decades, in which he was awarded several gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards. Walden has also owned and operated Tarpan Studios, a well-known recording studio in San Rafael, California, since the mid-1980s.
