Description

In 2006 I attempted, for the first time, to fuse visuals with my music, using "Reanimation Music", the opening track from my 2006 Lampse album GEBRAUCHSMUSIK, and old 1930s-1940s medical films from the Prelinger Archive. Marcus Fjellström kafkagarden.

Overview . Discography .

Marcus Fjellström (1979 - September 2017) was a Swedish musician, composer and multimedia artist. His work ranges from the purely orchestral through electronic music and audiovisual work. He has worked with the Swedish Royal Ballet and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as well as various ensembles and soloists. Marcus' relationship with music started, unsurprisingly, early on in his life.

Uncanny Valleys Swedish composer and multimedia artist Marcus Fjellström's debut Miasmah release follows two critically acclaimed full length albums on Lampse (2006's 'Gebrauchsmusik' and 2005's 'Exercises In Estrangement')

Following his dark and ghostly 2010 Miasmah release Schattenspieler, this year’s Library Music 1 has little, if anything, in common with its predecessor. While earlier Fjellström releases such as Gebrauchsmusik (Lampse 2006) and Schattenspieler (Miasmah 2010) displayed an underlying conceptual and/or stylistic coherence, Library Music 1 makes a point of going in a completely different direction. Just like the tracks of old music libraries, the 18 untitled tracks of Library Music 1 are disconnected fragments looking for a purpose; music rich in character but without a preconceived meaning and/or context.

Swedish composer and sound artist Marcus Fjellström has died. His last album Skelektikon was released earlier this year on Miasmah. It feels unreal to have to write these words and to accept that he is no longer with us in life. Marcus was one of the most beloved, funny and warm-hearted people, and we will miss him immensely. Born in 1979 and classically trained as a composer, Fjellström was as comfortable working with the Swedish Royal Ballet and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as he was releasing bracing experimental recordings on Lampse and Miasmah. He later embraced filmmaking and created many audiovisual projects throughout the last decade.
