Issued in the wake of the number one title track, Sugar Shack is light, inoffensive, and, for the most part, insubstantial late-period Tex Mex rockabilly. There's not much original material, although Fireballs guitarist George Tomsco co-wrote "I Wonder Wh. The influence of Buddy Holly is pervasive (his "Lonesome Tears" and "Little Baby" are covered), and the program is filled out by covers of "Linda Lu," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Suzie Q," and Roy Orbison's "Almost Eighteen.

The Fireballs, sometimes billed as Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs, were an American rock and roll group, particularly popular at the end of the 1950s and in the early 1960s. The original 1958 line-up was George Tomsco (lead guitar), Chuck Tharp (vocals), Stan Lark (bass), Eric Budd (drums), and Dan Trammell (rhythm guitar). The Fireballs were formed in Raton, New Mexico in 1958, and got their start as an instrumental group featuring the very distinctive lead guitar of George Tomsco

The 14 tracks in this CD are:1. All the vocals featured Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs. By this time, however, the full impact of the British Invasion was being felt by all but the top North American artists and so it wasn't until early 1968 that they returned to the charts. To me anyway, the album is diminished somewhat by the omission of the first four instrumentals, and while it does offer nice renditions of the Holly cuts Lonesome Tears, Think It Over, and Maybe Baby, I would also like to have seen some of the flipsides to their hits, none of which are included and impossible to find in a quality CD.
