They released their fifth album, Hello Hum, in 2012. The group's song "Weighty Ghost" was used in 2008 film One Week, in both the trailer and one of the final scenes. In 2010, the song was included in The Top 100 Canadian Singles by National Post's Bob Mersereau. Wintersleep performed "Weighty Ghost" on Late Show with David Letterman on January 14, 2011. In December 2015, Wintersleep signed with Dine Alone Records. In January, 2016 the band premiered "Amerika" through The Wall Street Journal's blog. In March 4 of that year the band released an album, The Great Detachment, through Dine Alone. Rush bassist, Geddy Lee, played bass guitar on the track "Territory".

Enter "Hello Hum", Wintersleep’s fifth full-length album: an effort formed once again on strong points of their previous work, and filled with focus on musical timbres that had only minor influence in past compositions. The album title track commences the album like an introduction song, very experimentally. Wintersleep has been no stranger to building ambience in their sound, and "Hum" remains true to this.

Album · 2012 · 11 Songs. Hello Hum doesn’t compromise Wintersleep’s eclecticism, but it does refine it in appealing ways. Lead singer Paul Murphy is still a vivid yet elusive vocal presence, giving the songs cool elegance and ineffable yearning. Resuscitate, Rapture, In Came the Flood," and similar tunes swirl and twitch rhythmically while the lyrics oscillate between sadness and wonder. The title track's fractured calypso beat, the Beach Boys-esque pop shimmer of Someone, Somewhere, and the reverb-drenched waltz time of Smoke will keep listeners pleasantly off-balance

Hello Hum is Wintersleep’s fifth album, and the follow-up to 2010’s New Inheritors, which enabled the Canadians to skip around the globe. Hello Hum builds on that record’s strengths and bristles with confidence: guitarist Tim D’eon, in particular, seems to be on some kind of sugar rush. His looping riffs on lead single In Came the Flood and jittering patterns on Resuscitate are brilliant, propelling the album forward. Both of these songs appear in Hello Hum’s first half, and it is here that Wintersleep are at their best.
