Man on the Rocks is the twenty-fifth studio album by British musician Mike Oldfield, released on 3 March 2014 on the Virgin EMI label. The album is Oldfield's second full album of exclusively songs with no long or instrumental pieces, the first being 1989's Earth Moving. Man on the Rocks was produced by Stephen Lipson together with Oldfield.

The magazine traced the origins of the computer-generated illustration to its first publication around 1970. A few years ago, the cover was the subject of a four-minute documentary, Data Visualization Reinterpreted: The Story of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures Album Design, in which graphic designer Peter Saville ruminated on the cover and pulsars (a star that emits repeating series of radio waves similar to a lighthouse beam). So what you’re seeing is this comparative chart of the frequency and the accuracy of the signal. He went on to discuss how fascinated he was with fans adopting the diagram on apparel and tattoos for their own interpretation. Scientific American reported that the image on the cover of Unknown Pleasures was not the first time a pulsar had been graphed. That took place in 1967 in Cambridge, England.

The album as a whole can credibly claim to have invented heavy metal. 36 Things We Lost In The Fire (2001). Notoriously slow-rocking Minnesotans featuring a Mormon couple. Drowning in pre-millennial angst. By the time this was made the collective global comedown had begun. Unknown Pleasures’ is, notionally speaking, a punk record – albeit a cavernous, spectral-sounding one, thanks to the dark hand of Factory producer Martin Hannett. But there are already glimpses of something broader and more unclassifiable – something the band would cite in full on ‘Closer’. Commencing with ‘Atrocity Exhibition’, a claustrophobic shudder of tribal drums and alien-sounding guitar, ‘Closer’ plumbs rare depths of lyrical abjection and sonic horror.
