Description

The jewel in the Beau Brummels' crown, Triangle was an unexpected departure from the band's earlier hitmaking formula - and demonstrated Ron Elliott's growing maturation as a songwriter. All the band's signature styles (folk, country swing, and Brit-pop) are still heard in the mix, but the tunes here assume an added aura of mysticism. In late 2002 Collectors' Choice increased the odds of this occuring by reissuing the album on CD.

Titled Beau Brummels '66, the album was a collection of cover songs and was a commercial disappointment. Critics questioned Warner Brothers' decision to not release the band's original material, which had been recorded by the band in early 1966 as their previous label, Autumn Records, collapsed. These recordings eventually appeared on the 2005 compilation album San Fran. Released in July 1967, Triangle spent two weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart, peaking at number 197. Though not a commercial success, the album gained an underground following and received critical acclaim. Sal Valentino's "expressive" vocals were compared to those of Bob Dylan by Crawdaddy!'s Paul Williams in 1968 and by Perfect Sound Forever's.

This song is by The Beau Brummels and appears on the album Triangle (1967) and on the album Magic Hollow (2005). The love of passion Is to rill the rising sun streamIs to feel the cleaning rainIs to reveal the freshest hour. And gro. evealing all the life that will remainThat know. h, life is one through love and sun and rain.

Introducing the Beau Brummels.

Triangle did not sell at all well, for understandable reasons: the Brummels were effectively kicked off the train by the end of 1965, and it would have taken a miracle to catch up with it in the whirlwind atmosphere of 1967. Besides, most people preferred their psychedelia with a harder edge at the time, and Triangle is totally music for sissies. For instance, what was the point of ending the album with a Randy Newman song? Just so as to please the album's producer Lenny Waronker, a good pal of Randy's? ʽOld Kentucky Homeʼ is indeed a hilarious send-up of redneck attitudes, but it doesn't exactly have a lot to do with psychedelia - and even though it's one of the best tunes on the album (since it belongs to Randy), its positioning. The Beau Brummels were a decent folk-rock band, and the only kind of hooks Ron Elliott knew how to manufacture were folk-rock hooks.
