The Coasters were formed in Los Angeles, California in 1955 by Carl Gardner (tenor) and Bobby Nunn (bass) after the split of doo wop group The Robins. Their collaboration with legendary songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller gave them a unique sound that was very humorous most of the time. They also had success with hits such as "Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown," and "Little Egypt.

Along Came Jones is the 1965 debut album recorded by Tom Jones and included his massive hit single "It's Not Unusual". The album reached No 11. Some of the songs were covers and some were written especially for Jones like the Gordon Mills-penned "The Rose". In July 1965 Parrot Records (USA, Canada) issued an abridged (12 track) version of the album, titled It's Not Unusual. Side 1. "I've Got a Heart" (Gordon Mills, Les Reed) 2:33. The Coasters were more of a Greek chorus telling stories with music, and the stories were humorous and even satirical. The concept of "novelty songs" hadn't even occurred to anyone in 1959. This song is a parody of the Western-style silent film melodrama - the kind which had damsels in distress, mustache-twirling villains, and "Dudley Do-Right"-type heroes. The inspiration for this song was a film, Along Came Jones, a 1945 comedy-Western starring Gary Cooper and Loretta Young. As is the case with "Charlie Brown," the two have nothing to do with each other but the title. Leiber and Stoller had a give-and-take collaboration with The Coasters by then.
