Pale Chalice is the label's most recent coup, and alongside a new one from False, is primed to release what will surely stand as Gilead's prize black metal albums for this year. The band's new album, Negate the Infinite and Miraculous, is stripped down and focused. USBM's more experimental, meandering tendencies are wholly absent, leaving in their stead an orthodox mentality (and heavy reliance on good ol' tremolo and grimy punk beats).

San Fransisco based Pale Chalice hasn't released anything wince their 2011 debut, but we can forgive them if they continue to make albums such as this. There is something to be said for quality over quantity (though I wouldn't argue if they gave us both). Negate the Infinite and Miraculous is a journey into the darkness of the void. The album is alternately a ripping, chaotic ride into oblivion and a pensive discussion of nothingness. Production quality is remarkably sharp and clean for a black metal album, providing a clarity of intent

With their new album, Negate the Infinite and Miraculous, the group rises from the vile depths of unlikely Oshkosh, Wisconsin to prove that even places with funny names can slit your throat from galloping horseback. The changing pace and drumming styles, as on Bound by Intransigent Flight, (how dare they call me intransigent) are spellbinding. Attempts to utilize the album as background music at work proved a failed experiment. It’s just too gosh darn engaging. Comparisons to Taake are appropriate, though Pale Chalice is both less experimental and more modern-sounding. Compositions utilize excellent dynamics and progression to build to fiery finales. Fragile Bones Cradling Tallow is a prime example with its sudden breaks of lonely guitar leads and blasts of maniacal drum and tremolo fury. This was one of those albums that caught my attention right from the beginning.

It is currently the third best-selling metal album on the site.
