Scent of Soil' is fronted by the Norwegian vocalist Kirsti Huke and saxophonist Tore Brunborg. They make use of material from a critically acclaimed commissioned work they wrote together for the Vossa Jazz Festival in 2010. The music on 'Scent of Soil' ranges from energetic rock to tender ballads in which the group's jazz roots emerge more distinctly. Tore Brunborg is Tord Gustavsen's gifted sax disciple, while Kirsti Huke is an unhurried, flawlessly controlled, multi-genre vocalist who sketches graceful shapes somewhat in the manner of Susanna Wallumrod. They sound made for each other on this mix of Huke's own tranquil songs, and poems by Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson. Frost's words fuel the opening Breeze, which builds to a tenor sax-and-vocals swell underpinned by guitarist Petter Vagan and a subtle fusion rhythm section.

Gard Nilssen (born 24 June 1983 in Skien, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (drums) and composer, and member of the bands Bushman's Revenge and Puma. Gard Nilssen at the Moers Festival 2015. Bassist Rune Nergaard and drummer Gard Nilssen have performed together in several different bands, but are perhaps best known from the free rock band Bushman’s Revenge.
