The song was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who also wrote the group's first hit "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" along with Phil Spector. It is the title track of their album. The Righteous Brothers were the musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. They recorded from 1963 through 1975, and continued to perform live until Hatfield's death in 2003. Their emotive vocal stylings were sometimes dubbed "blue-eyed soul. They adopted their name in 1962 while performing together around Los Angeles, USA as part of a five-member group called The Paramours, which featured John Wimber (who was much later one of the founders of the Vineyard Movement) on keyboards.

Medley remembered the tune Mann and Weil had scrapped, and asked them to revive it. They reluctantly delivered the song to Medley, who produced it himself, using many of Spector's techniques. Released as their first single for MGM, "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration" returned the duo to the top of the Hot 100, where it stayed for three weeks. This is a beautiful soul album. I really never knew anything about the Righteous Brothers other than there hits from Top Gun and Ghost movies. This is a great album that i picked out of a dollar bin at a goodwill. These 2 guys can truly sing. This album is such a refreshing to listen to because not to many of todays artists can sing. I would definitely consider this group the Blueprint of Blue eye soul music to other groups that would follow their path as Hall & Oats and George Michael. I think anybody that loves beautiful music by an artist that can truly sing will enjoy this album.
