The Jazz Age, is the fourteenth studio album, is a re-recording of some of Bryan Ferry's compositions, as played in jazz style of the 1920s, by The Bryan Ferry Orchestra. The 13 songs have been chosen from 11 albums, from his very first release Roxy Music (1972) to his at that time recent solo record Olympia (2010).
The Jazz Composer's Orchestra is a 1968 album by the Jazz Composer's Orchestra recorded over a period of six months with Michael Mantler as composer, leader and producer. Many of the key figures in avant-garde jazz from the time contributed on the album including Don Cherry, Pharoah Sanders, Gato Barbieri, Larry Coryell, Roswell Rudd, and Carla Bley. The album's finale features a two-part concerto for Cecil Taylor and orchestra.
Only 8 left in stock (more on the way). The two jazz suites are peripheral Shostakovich, but great fun all the same. The Concertgebouw's resident jazzers would clearly give any professional combo a run for its money, especially in the lengthy Second Suite, assembled from film and theatre scores. Tahiti Trot is even more intriguing than it sounds: an orchestral transcription of the 1920s hit "Tea For Two", made in a matter of hours to win a bet.
Jazz Upstairs is Allentown's premiere jazz series occurring throughout the year. January 11: Fusion Jazz Trio (FJT) was formed in 2002. This energetic jazz trio blends bold percussion, funky and innovative bass lines and electrifying keyboard refrains into a refreshing musical signature sure to please any discerning audience. Their creation of the Jazz Composer's Orchestra, with recordings released on their own label, was the culmination of this endeavor, and the first recording was one of the masterpieces of creative music in the '60s. Mantler had come from the European avant-classical tradition and sought to provide an orchestral framework supporting some of the most advanced musicians in avant-garde jazz - and he succeeded magnificently. His style tends toward the brooding and darkly romantic with harsh, cynical edges, a perfect foil for the robust, shackle-breaking improvisations found herein.
So too, jazz itself encompasses so much its discography can be a little overwhelming. In an effort to make the genre a little more approachable, here are 10 jazz albums for people who don’t like jazz. 1. Miles Davis, Kind of Blue Kind of Blue is the best-selling jazz album in history, and a quintessential example of jazz at its best
Jazz - Orchestral jazz: It was in the 1920s that the first forms of true orchestral jazz were developed, most significantly by Fletcher Henderson and Duke Ellington. Although large aggregations had begun to appear in the late teens, these were dance orchestras playing the popular songs and novelty pieces of the day, with nary a smattering of jazz. The most celebrated of these was Mood Indigo (1930), the first of many pieces with a blueslike character, usually set in slow tempos. In these and in such other song and dance numbers as Sophisticated Lady (1932) and Solitude (1934), Ellington was able not only to exploit the individual talents of his musicians but to extend and vary the forms of jazz. In addition, he expanded upon his already highly developed feeling for instrumental timbres and colours and his extraordinary forward-looking harmonic sense.
