Astra is the third studio album by British rock band Asia, released in November 20, 1985.

Astra is the third studio album by British rock band Asia, released on 30 November 1985 by Geffen Records. It was their last full-length studio album with co-founding vocalist and bassist John Wetton until Phoenix (2008), released after the original line-up reunited in 2006. Astra is the group's only album with Swiss guitarist Mandy Meyer, who replaced Steve Howe.

While somewhat unfairly regarded in comparison to Asia's first two albums, Astra is nonetheless a solid prog rock outing that finds bassist/vocalist John Wetton, keyboardist Geoff Downes, drummer Carl Palmer, and replacement guitarist, Krokus' Mandy Meyer, delivering a set of melodic and driving rock anthems.

Astra was the third studio album released by Asia. John Wetton had returned to the line-up, but Steve Howe soon left due to tensions with Wetton. He later enjoyed some success with Steve Hackett in GTR. Howe was replaced by Mandy Meyer (Krokus). Many consider Astra to be the worst album released during the Wetton-era of Asia, and I'm inclined to agree with that. It seemed Asia had run out of steam, having few ideas that seemed worthwhile. As expected, public interest waned considerably.

The third studio album, Astra, by the British Progressive Rock group, Asia, was released in November of 1985. This was the last album to feature the band member John Wetton, who would come back to work with Asia on 2008’s reunion album, Phoenix. Although the album sold 500,000 copies, the tour that was planned was cancelled for that year.

I think it's unfortunate, in a way, that Asia saw such massive success with their first album (riding the wave of popularity generated by the song "Heat Of The Moment"), because it managed to overshadow just about everything that was to follow, especially as "creative differences" gradually split the band over the next few years.
