Saxophonist Manu Dibango pops up on half of the tracks and invokes memories of his Laswell-produced album "Electric Africa". I first heard Philip Wilson on the Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy on the outstanding album "I Only Have Eyes For You" Wilson being the only non-brass instrument of the ensemble. Wilson programs the DMX, play bass synth and assorted percussion instruments, maybe only Laswell could persuade a drummer to make an album sans drum kit. I remember "Boat Peoples" and the "Mokassa Rock" & the ambient "Doo Root" making it on a lot of mixtapes I was making at the time.
