After twenty-two years of pure joy received and given thanks to his records, I am deeply thankful for having seen such things as, people crying to his records on my turntables (Desire), people dancing like absolute hatstands to your deepest tracks (Floorpeice) and I'll let other, more articulate folks, comment on his most forward-thinking, Cough! I'd would like to share a story regarding this little whitelabel we have here.Picture the scene if you will, 11.59pm, 1999, party at my house. Where steaming headlong into a new millennium and old smartypants here has a new record he's been itching to drop on his gathered friends. I proceed to yell "ROMANTHONY / COUNTDOWN 2000 / DANCE YOUR RIDICULOUSLY VINTAGE TWENTIETH CENTURY ACID CASUAL ASS OFF YOU FUCKERS/ IT'S ON GLASGOW UNDERGROUND I THINK. The party is in full swing in front of the decks and Romanthony is singing gloriously, extolling the virtues of a brighter future together, a spiritually full human existence shared, brothers and sisters rocking the future funky beat together with one heart and seven billion hips. The gathering have their arms in the air, around each other and we're all tripping off our nuts, smiling, crying, laughing, hugging, kissing, but mainly just the tripping. "COUNTDOWN TO THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND, COUNTDOWN TWO THOUSAND" Holy Shit!, what, wait a second!...it suddenly dawns on me. I think to myself as the breakdown in Romanthony's spiritually uplifting New Years Resolution drops and someone slips in the Andy Weatherall mix of "Come Together" by Primal Scream over my selection for the end of the millennium, euphoric silence.We're all fucking annihilated, lying down on the dancefloor in the dark at the start of the new century.
